Frequently Asked Questions

Executive Functioning Lessons for Students

FAQ Questions for Parents & Students

The beauty of the Effective Student Course is that it teaches students the basics of “how to do school”.  The lessons are delivered from the students’ perspective so that they feel understood and supported.  Action steps are kept simple but powerful so that students are more inclined to follow through.  If students struggle with how to do so, academic coaching is available to partner with them while applying the lessons to their current academic demands.

We assume that because students are in school, they know how to do school.  Can you imagine going to work daily without being taught how to do your job well or efficiently?  That is the experience many students face leading to discouragement and disinterest in learning.  If students are equipped with skills to be successful learners, they have a higher chance of becoming lifelong learners.

A course teaches the lessons in incremental, easy to follow steps, making the overwhelming seem simple while remaining emotionally neutral and even positive.  It serves as a way for students to receive instruction separate from their parents’ direction, breaking some of the power struggles that exist between parents and students.

That depends on the student.  If you’re not sure, the starter package is an option which is the course and 3 coaching sessions.  Students can go through the course and then schedule sessions with the coach during or when they’ve completed it to help them apply the lessons.

Only if you choose.  These optional resources align with the course so students see consistent messaging across resources.  It can also save you a trip to the store!

The course has been designed for use from grade 4 through college with the younger students obviously needing more support with application of the lessons.

Yes! One of the best ways to use the course is for a student and parent to learn together.  It helps the student view the parent as having a growth mindset.  It also gives the student the ability to shine and even hold a parent accountable.
